Oh God!! Having now seen this excellent image of a Goldfinch, I now want to bin the one I took this afternoon, also on a 400mm F/5.6 L on a 7D Mark II but without a 1.4x Extender and only ISO 800.

How close were you, Stan? I was a very long distance away (~50ft?) for mine and that's probably my problem.

low noise at ISO1600 (is this the Mk2 7D ?)

no this is pre my Mk II, shot with my 7D I, which for me anyway performs well at ISO 1600 - 3200 with a little noise reduction, but only on the background.

How close were you, Stan? I was a very long distance away (~50ft?) for mine and that's probably my problem.

shooting distance was 7.5 metres

People often knock the 7D I but I never found a problem with it but you did need to have it set up properly

Might print it up ans see what it looks like
