Just wondering peoples thoughts on this, first attempt at this kind of thing

I would have liked to see the whole persons name as that seems to be the subject and theres to much space above the "In" while retaining the top of the cross in the bg, DOF looks good

Think Dave's right. Maybe have been better to just pull back a little.
Do like the DoF - works well.

for the DoF for me too.
And you've managed to avoid my pet hate in this type of shot . . . people who have the right hand side of the lettering closest to the camera so that it reads backwards. I don't know why but it irritates the hell out of me

Agree with the comments about a little more space, but for me personally I think that this would have made a more interesting shot with a real old, craggy gravestone.
The black lettering stands out really well against the white on that particular stone, but I think I'd prefer to sacrifice some of that clarity for more atmosphere and texture.
