Managed to get this picture a week after receiving my 50mm 1.8f.
It was pure luck I managed to get such a sharp image around the eye with manual focusing and a (very) hyper dog. Probably my favourite photo so far.

As you say you got nicely focused on the eyes though the light was less kind to you. Looks a little blown on the side of his muzzle. something on the right to bounce a little light back on the dark side would have been good also.

Having said all that I also have a JR and very few shots whilst he's awake!

Totally agree with you there. It was a spur of the moment photo so there wasn't much I could do about the lighting.
He's a Portugese Podengo, Not a Jack Russell.
