Yes
We found this fellow wondering around the front yard at about 2pm this afternoon. We picked him / her up and took him/her into the house. He/she does not seem fazed by us in the slightest, he/she has eaten, and do have a water bowl (although I haven’t seen him/her drink)

Will probably keep him/her for a day or so and then release him/her into the back garden. Hubby is busy building a little house to go out with him/her

Have you weighed it ?

I'm only asking as the general rule (as per Autumnwatch) is that if you find a hedgehog less than 650g then it will not be able to survive winter as it will not have the reserves for hibernation.

Details about what to do further down this page if its the kind of thing your interested in......

(y) Thank you, it weighs 398g! I will read through the link you sent.
It doesn’t curl up when I pick it up, to me it seems as though it is used to being handled.

Sounds very small then based on what they were talking about on the TV.

I think there are people that will take it to a sactuary if that's what you wanted.

Keep us posted.

UPDATE: He (we had a quick look and think it’s a he) is currently on his 3rd bowl of water and second bowl of food (although he did spill some). :) He is also able to curl up. I read on the one German website that if a hedgehog is dehydrated they can’t curl up. He is also having a good walk around my lounge (although he seems to be dragging his one back leg a bit). :(

According to the
http://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/FAQS/caring_for_hoglets.htm A hedgehog eight weeks old weighs about 350gms [12oz] so I would guess my one is about 10 weeks?

I sent an e-mail to Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital and explained everything to them. I would like to nurse him myself but, we will hear what they say.
.... Watch this space!

I always feel bad for hedgehogs as my dogs often get them in the garden when I let them out last thing at night. At certain times of year it can be 5 or 6 hedgehogs a week. Sometimes the hedgehog gets killed and other times (if I'm on the ball) I can intervene and rescue them in time. Either way I have to then spend ages getting the spines out of the dog's mouths.

Anyway - Good luck whatever you decide to do.
