how do you blur the background in PSE7

Can someone please tell me how I can blur the background of a head shot picture without actually blurring the main head shot itself...

I've got PSE 7 - I have tried to go thru the menu but cant get how to blur... So if someone could explain in simple terms I would be extremely gratefulor is it impossible to do.....

duplicate layer, go to filter and gaussian blur the whole thing then just mask off the face? yeah im sure thatd work?

or on the gaussian layer get the the eraser and just delete through maybe? im not that good at photoshop and have never seen elements!

Use Lens blur, or Box blur instead o Gaussian, it looks better.

Masking's a pretty fundamental aspect of working in either version of Photoshop so worth getting to grips with at least the basic principles.

You'll need to blur the background (layer 1), and then paint back in, the bits you want to want to be clear (the face).

It doesn't have one - the only manual as such is the online help section....

Just thought that I'd ask as then a fellow member can explain it alot better than what a manual can...
