I've seen quite a few of his video tutorials over the years. As you say, worth a watch.
He used a grad on an angle to tone down the foreground rocks left side (not the white on infront of the camera) that were in harsh sunlight. I have a 2-stop and 3-stop grad and also use the grads in LR/PS.
