Only done a couple of cricket matches this season and only done this because the Amateur RL administrators have screwed up the fixtures and the game i was covering today was actually played yesterday so took the chance to freelance at a local match and see what i can get from the papers

There all really good shots! :)

The last one number 12 is my favourite.

:exit:Really nice! Just a Q - did you fake the blur? Looks a bit too good ... :exit:

Thanks guys

Carol, how dare you  It's just full frame lovelyness combined with the 400mm and 1.4x

I'll get back to you for your punishment.

Dear Father Christmas, I would like a Nikon D3s for christmas.

from Martin age: lots and lots and lots.

Great shots Gary, I just wish I lived near you as I would be hiring you as a private tutor.(y)

Love 'em all, but #3, #5 and #11 are my favs.

crackin set (y)

Me too Santa, and maybe a shiny new 400 2.8 as well.
I can trade in a very old 300 if it helps!

Duncan (age - probably at least as much as Martin)

ps, Gary, I need a masterclass too!

Duncan do you use any in camera setting, ie, sharpness, colour etc?

I haven't been using them Martin, but I'm thinking that I ought to be, particularly a boost in saturation now that the weather's grey.
Who am I kidding, the weather's been mostly grey here since April. My shots from the weekend (carefully chosen example) were taken in dull conditions and looking back I think they could have done with a boost. Now you've put the idea into my head I'm going to experiment, though after next weekend when I'm shooting indoors.

Well I reckon the bloke in no. 3 is out.

I bet these look so much better at full res (i.e. without the web compression).

I have been thinking of using the colour saturation myself, but I like photo's to be 'honest' and not messed about with too much.

If the sky looks grey and stormy so be it. But when you see some photo's the sky looks gloriously blue like a summers day which to me doesn't record the true scene. I think I am in the minority there anyway.

To my untutored eye, these are simply stunning. They are exactly the sort of shots I aspire to. Fantastic.

Can i just say a big thanks to everyone for your comments, Crickets not something i specialise in so am quite suprised at your comments, to be honest i just turned up and fired off a few frames.

Simon, like ive just mentioned in a thread started by Richard, no PP, in camera set to +1 Saturation, +1 contrast and a slight curve move and thats it except for No8 the sideways on shot, this had a particularly dark background made up of a wall and very dark bushes, i used full Active D Lighting to bring out detail lost in the dark bushes, i know they look quite light but in real life that was a very dark area.

Cut the false modesty mate; you know that they're bloody good! :p

Maybe they don't match up to Tony's skill at capturing the ultimate in action quite yet (they aren't far off), but in terms of picture quality they are superb. Having said that cricket is like any sport; getting the best highlights is often a quirk of fate, bolstered by the experience to make the most of it.

Some cracking stuff there..........Personally I like to get the bowler having just let go of the delivery and the batsman having just played the shot. Find they are very effective then. What lens are you using ?? I have to suffer with a Sigma 300 2.8 for my sins !!
