Lens error Canon Ixus 100

My sister got her new camera last week and it seem to have died already, she has told me that the error is showing lens error and that the lens is out and the camera isnt working.

Now a quick google shows a number of issues regarding lens error, anyone else had this problem?
 
Has she done simple things like remove/refit the battery and turn it back on? If that doesn't work remove/refit battery then press the Playback button.

if those don't work then it's back for repair unfortunately.
 
Had this happen to a couple of models in the past. Had to go to an authorised service centre each time for warranty repair. I suspect it's a software problem but as Escy says, send it back to the retailer for replacement or refund.
 
Yeah cheers looks like it will be going back. Would you recommend getting the same one again?
 
Yeah, I've had one for a couple of years and it's been 100% fine, the wife has an Ixus 95 which has also been fine (and it's seriously abused). Great cameras, well built and very good VFM these days :)
