Male Black Darter.

Hi All,

My first attempt at photographing Dragonflies. This Male Black Darter (Sympetrum danae) was taken at Black Lake in Cheshire, England,UK.

I used a Canon 1Ds MarkIII with a Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS II lens and a Canon 1.4 Converter III. The image was handheld.

Great contrast with the decaying wood background. Good focus on his body. I find that with shots like this, if the dragonfly is rotated in the frame it creates more dynamism and looks less static. You've got plenty of space, so it might be worth a look see. Keep it up, but be quick as the season is on the decline and there'll be fewer and fewer around as we enter October and beyond.
