Maternity

I don't fell "all at ease" with this very cool image, Lee.

I dig the pictorial aspect of it but not the ambiguities
present here. Since you plan another shoot, may I
suggest…

  • the belly imagery is not, for me, compatible with
the symbol of the hand on the waist

  • seeing the belly is the right thing, of course but
I would be very careful with the thighs and knees.
both should absolutely contribute positively to
your image as they can be sensitive aesthetic
    elements in the composition.

  • See if you could get a more "motherly" look from
your subject if the aim is the child and or the family.
If this is for the partner then go for it.
I really dig the BG and negative space! (y)

I'm not a fan of smiley face stuff, but I suppose there's a time and a place

I was not thinking "smiley"… on the contrary.
I was always jealous of the VERY personal
thing my ex-wife had with her belly. At the sa-
me time jealous and contemplative.

When I did pictures of her — with the kid in
mind— I wanted to capture the most intimate
moments she had with him/her. It was all in
tenderness and dimmed lights. warmth and˛
of course from my part, envy, jealousy. The
smile was in her eyes!

Hiya like the image very much. Didnt pick up on the other points but very intresting to read them.

@juggler What would the higher lighting acheive on the face just more dimension ?
Do you think it would make a dramtic differance. I am not being funny just trying to understand.

she needs to be a lot bigger in my opinion, it just looks like shes holding her belly posing but doesn't look pregant

Two things - there'd be more light on the face but more importantly the nose shadow would fall downwards, not upwards. As I've just commented elsewhere - it always looks a bit odd when the tip of the nose shadow is above the actual tip of the nose. It's a small thing but the light pattern on the whole face would be more polished looking if it were changed.

I agree with you, think perhaps when the bump is more visible it could totally change the feel of the image...
