Memory Card for 7D

Hi!

Looking at memory cards, got a fair few Transcend which have always been great but thinking of getting a 16gb and basically for the same price i can get Kingston, Hama or Transcend

which should I get please based on reliability etc? would it really make a difference? (same speed etc)

or would it be better to get 2x 8Gb?

Out of those 3 I would go for the Hama, the faster speed will help when the 7D is set to burst mode or recording movies. I think 2 * 8Mb cards will be limiting if you plan to use RAW mode or lots of video, I can see the logic of not putting all your eggs in one basket but I would go with the higher capacity card.

thanks :) i've never had a Hama one before, is this a good CF make? reliable etc?
 
i've only used sandisk 60mb/s cards worked well for me thus far.
 
The Transcend is fine.

I have that 16GB one and a 32GB one.

Personally I think that 2 x 8GB may be somewhat frustrating.

Still, if you think you're card will be corrupted...

It'll be just re-branded by Hama, there are only a handful of actual flash memory manufactures, Hama is not one of them.

Most Pros go with brand names like Sandisk and Lexar but they do cost quite a bit more. ;)

No it won't.

  • HD movies require nothing faster than 8 MB/s - Manual p.149. I doubt you can buy a genuine card that slow nowadays.
  • Card speed has no impact on how many images before the buffer fills. It does affect how quickly a full buffer is emptied, but who shoots that many in a burst?
 
I have always used Sandisk since i went to a 7D/CF cards. Something i dont want to risk losing is all my images from the day/weekend so worth spending the extra money to be sure.
