I genuinely have never seen spiders as big as these two, which were basking in the sun the other day. Not the greatest images but would be delighted if someone could ID them.

Your a brave man to get that close to them (y)

I didnt realise we had anything of this stature in Scotland and then you find three around your garden shed.

I should have got them in a glass and got some good close ups, then gave them to the wife as a present lol

Walnut orb weaver i believe. They can give a stinging bite apparently

Ouch! I believe you are right. The first one is as you say a walnut orb weaver and has a nasty bite. I'm shocked for I had no idea such creatures existed in Scotland never mind in my shed.

Do spiders remain in the same place or do the wander in search of new habitat?

LOL I thought it was to keep me out haha.

I have been trying to find them again but so far no luck:(

Papasken, they're primarily a woodland and garden spider so they might have just been taking shelter temporarily in your shed.

Makes sense as there is a wooded area behind the house. Thanks
