Again, nobody mention metering...
All taken with my 70-300 IS lens. I'm hoping these are getting ok ish for this lens. I so have lens envy and want something better :(
Thanks for looking, critique gratefully received as long as the 'm' word isn't mentioned

A very good attempt it looks like you were struggling for lighting the more you do the easier it gets ;) Try gigrin farm it may even be worth doing a meet there are up to 200 birds there for a couple of hours

Richard

Thanks Richard. The light did get a bit rubbish by the time the kites came out. I'm going to Gigrin in July before Skomer :) It was good then? After going to Nicki's I'm wondering whether I'll want to go!

I have been visiting for about eight years 3 or 4 times a year so it can't be to bad
Regards
Richard
Im off to Norfolk on the 8th,9th and 10th of May maybe i might get a Barn Owl

Looks like a very decent set of results to me. The exposures look good as well. Why would anyone be questioning your metering?

It would be nice to see them a bit bigger though. This was taken at 285mm and is a slight crop....

Mmm nice one, with Easter looming, something to do, a session with birds would be nice . . . I'm based not far away from Colchester, where did you get these shots? Was thinking of the 'Suffolk Owl Sanctuary' off the A140? I know, loads of visitors (kids:puke:)? but its the only time I will get . . . !

I could try Colchester Zoo . . . but Hazel my partner does not walk so far these days, and I pay with a painful knee the next day . . . !

CJS, I've been to the Suffolk owl sanctuary. They have a gorgeous masked/spectacled owl there called Cecil :) Good oportunities for close ups without wire fencing, and some flying on nice days :)

These pics were at Colchester Zoo. If you're not into walking up hills, down steep slopes and covering a few miles then Colchester zoo maybe not be the place for you. Saying that, the bird arena is fairly near the entrance. They do a few flying displays a day and when they were not flying, I took pics of their lazy lions which are opposite :)

Oh yes, wait until half term! Let me know if you find anywhere nice? :)
Minsmere is good near you?

Thanks for that Tori, I doubt Hazel would manage to well at the zoo by the sound of it . . . ? so I think the Owl Sanctuary for a treat . . . we dont go out together much these days :| Hazel has osteoporosis in her spine . . . but hey, she is a fighter, "life goes on" says she!!! I have a smashed knee cap . . . together we dont make one good'un . . . but we try :naughty:

Pictures are normally boats, fish, riverscapes, flora and fauna, sunsets and views, so a change of tack, something different will be a boost to us both . . . ;)

Minsmere . . . have to research that one, see what walking it involves? . . . I suspect I would also need a better and longer lens . . . ?

Thank you once again for your inspiration, CJS

CJS, are you able to take Hazel places that are wheelchair friendly? Colchester zoo isn't really wheelchair friendly, but the Suffolk place is. I have no idea about Minsmere as I've not been. When I go I'll let you know if you like? :)

John, thank you very much! As long as it's improving that's all that matters ;-)

Hi Tori . . . Wheelchair . . . ??? its going to come???? but Hazels not keen  However, I might have to bring it up again . . . although, we haven't finished with the medical options yet, next appointment with the specialist in June.

And the GP, he is brilliant, Hazel had some new medication last night . . . has to be at night, knocks her out, but the improvement today . . . very encouraging(y)

Back to my bluebells to day . . . predictable . . . but I love them, takes me back to the early 50's, we lived in a small village in Hertfordshire, woods all round. I used to pick arm-fulls for my mum  . . . do it these days, no way, protected and all that . . .

Once again, thanks for your interest Tori, CJS
