I'm off to skye next week so i've decided to treat myself to a new filter, i plan on visiting a few coastal areas and some waterfalls so thinking of getting something around a 6 stop nd filter, i have a b+w 10 stop but sometimes i find it too dark (if that makes sense) especially when shooting on an overcast day or in a wooded area or want more motion rather than milky smooth water...

Anyway any recommendations, i'd say anything upto 100 squids :)

10 stop (as I'm sure you know) is full on long exposure malarky. All good fun and it has it's place but not that handy.

You say next week - At this time of year Water / Woodland will be kind to you. Certainly not too much light so you'd be amazed what you can get away with.

Are you after ND or ND grads ?

A circular polariser is very useful for cutting down reflections and also makes the vegetation look lush. You can combine this with ND.

If you're coming to Skye I'd suggest an umbrella, although it would only get blown inside out by the wind :D

I find a 3 stop nd is normally plenty up here, usually combined with cpl.
If you're thinking 6 stop then the little stopper is your man.
Or if you're talking screw in type then b&w do a 6 stop too.
