This was launched a few days ago following conversations between photographers, football clubs and associations over the last year, and particularly since top-level football in the UK returned in June after the Covid-19 enforced break.
The FPA has just two classes of membership. (1) Professional membership, which is open to full-time professional sport photographers specialising in football; and (2) for those who do not meet those conditions, there is also Associate Membership, open to students studying photography, or a related course, and those who demonstrate a real, genuine and committed interest in becoming a professional football photographer (my italics).
I've not spoke to anyone involved in this venture but I wonder what regular football photographers on here make of this and what it means for the future. I'm not sure that the membership classes are well-defined, personally, but I think I can see what the intention is and have my own thoughts about where this might be heading.
