Anyone got one? Thoughts?

I keep meaning to buy a 2nd hand Sigma 10-20mm but something keeps getting in the way (First the Sigma 30mm 1.4, now this one).

I have a 55-200mm non VR so this would be a good upgrade, but how does it perform at the 300mm end?

Cheers

I brought one a couple of months ago.

I would highly rate it. The VR works really well at 300mm.

I'd post some pictures for you at the 300 end, but ive left my hard drive down at the caravan and havnt got any photos on my computer.

Personaly i wouldn't get a big zoom lens with out the VR.

My 200mm is non VR, as is my 18-55mm, so I haven't experienced a VR lens yet, the general consensus does seem to be that it works really well though.

It is a cracking lens for the money mate.. I have had one since I got my D50 five years ago and I have traded up my gear every year and it still stays with me and it works a treat on the D700.

Have a look at this thread, A high percentage of the shots were taken with the 70-300

There's some fantastic images in there

Do you do much post processing on them, I can't believe they come out of the camera looking that good? Or am I wrong?

I bought mine SH from someone on here a few months ago, and can only say I've been delighted with it

All the shots in these threads were taken on my D300 with it on our recent trip to Scotland

Those images in that thread have been run through photoshop and had a preset I made for de-saturation and toning then they are pushed back in to lightroom for a little sharpening and exported for upload.

All in all each image has only had about 1 min of processing done on them, nothing vast...

Cheers all, think I'll go for this one.

I think I'm destined to never own the 10-20 :bonk:

It's a great lens for the money - you won't be disappointed!

I bought one a while ago and sold it when I got my 70-200VR. I regretted it so much I bought another one. I think mine is very sharp throughout its range and well balanced. But, with all the VR lenses I have used, it helps to hold the camera very firmly when VR is on.
I can highly recommend it.. I am sure it would get more use than a 10-20

Cracking lens that punches well above its price - even with the recent price hikes, sharp throughout the range and VR is fantastic when you get used to it . I don't think I have used my 55-200 since I got it

take a sugababe,a photographer very unsteady on his legs with shakey hands, nightime deep in a milling crowd,300mm 1/125s
i just cant hold steady it shows what the lens rather than i can do

2nd one is awesome, can't think the VR made much difference at 1/1000s though. Got any more? I like Heidi Range

i have and hearing her french in a scouse accent was superb

shes quite a likeable girl

not my thing but they can sing and put on a good show (y)

70-300mm VR is a great lens and sharp throughout the range, definitely worth having in my experience. Got a friend to bring me one back from New York a couple of years ago costing about £260 at the time.
