It's been gently pointed out to me that Ken Rockwell (who comes up repeatedly in google searches for Nikon lens reviews) isn't necessarily the most reliable source of solid info. Is there a particular site that could be recommended for reviews generally? I like DPReview for new stuff, but they aren't goingt to provide info on older lenses.

This guy gives a pretty good review https://photographylife.com/lens-reviews
I also have a look here http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/index.php/cat/1

Fredmiranda.com has hndreds of user reviews which i find more useful than Lab/Magazine type reviews as the reviews are based on long term ownership and real world usage

I tend to read reviews from working photographers rather than websites. Tend to get a better feel, and better example images than that of review sites.

I've found this one while browsing through: http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2.html

What I especially like are those who have info on older lenses, rather than just look at the latest and greatest since I can't afford new kit and am very glad to buy used. It also gives a sense of proportion to compare older and newer lenses.

*edit*
Lenstip as mentioned by Gunner looks very useful too.
