Beginner Not sure about this one...

As said, I'm not sure about this one. Is there too much going on in the background?

This is the 1st time I've ever taken a photograph of birds btw.

Lovely detail on the sparrow Matt, but the feeder is very dominant.

Try making some nice branch/log perches and feed the birds near to them. You will often find that they will land on a perch before moving onto the feeder which will give a more "natural" look. (peanut butter smeared on the perch can help too!)

@Tigger.ufo in hind site I may have been better off more sideways on. To be fair though it was a totally spur of the moment shot. Having never taken photos of birds before it was a case of focus then spray and pray haha, I couldn't believe how twitchy they are.

I might put a feeder up in the garden though, thanks for the tip on the peanut butter

looks to me like the back focus is out ..feeder in focus bird not
