Official Talk Leica thread

Last week I picked up a very fun little lens, the TTartisan 28/5.6. I was very taken with the 28mm Summaron when I tried it out last year and this scratches that itch - I'm saving up for a Summicron for the versatility and its performance, but this should serve me well for the next few months:

Took that combo with me on Good Friday documented the goings on in Trafalgar Sq.:

I picked up the TT Artisans 28mm when they first came out. I’ve been very impressed with it on the M10.

I’d quite like something that lets a bit more light in at 28mm but it’s difficult to justify given how the TTA 28mm performs.

Yeah it's an impressive lens for its size and price, but the corners let it down for me - I like including little bits of context near the edges. Plus that 5.6 is tough to work with in the UK. I do find myself bringing it along quite often since it barely takes up any space, especially if I forego the hood.

I'm currently using Lexar 128gb 250mb/s class II cards and since moving to the M11 - my laptop crashes either during import in Lightroom or if I navigate into the my card through Finder and open the subfolders (MacOS). I then need to do a reboot..

I need to open finder, copy the whole SD Card paste onto my mac and then run the lightroom import! It works fine that way.

Has anyone else experienced this? I know Leica recommend a different card? or maybe my card is faulty? Do we think that's the answer?

Sounds like a LR issue to me… have you updated adobe cc to the latest version?

Sorry - just scrolled up a bit :)
I can recommend the voigtlander 28mm ultron (v2 I think) around 500 euro used. I have the album in flickr (link below) if you want to see the sort of shots it gets.
Goes to f2.8 I think, so gets you that little extra light/speed...

Hi, ... (M9 - LEITZ Tele-Elmar 4/135 ; f 5,6 ; crop) :

(Not easy to use on an M without live view or an EVF. Perhaps this is why lenses longer than 50mm are often offered used in excellent condition ... ;))

(My SONY settings: ISO 160, JPEGS with contrast +2, Saturation +1, sharpness +3, size 18 MP. Live view with focus area magnification, and IS are helpful.

My dear old Elmar shows impressive performance, I think ... ---)

Hi, I concluded with a rather strong statement above. and I was thinking of corroborating it... --- :

This is no strict comparison, of course. There are differences, as stated. - The cams are set up identically. But I compared a tele prime from 1966 to a modern zoom, with AF.

The Tele-Elmar was around 500 DM (in 1973; the only price I found). At that time, the top BMW bike was the R75/5 at around 5000 DM. The Tele-Elmar cost 10% then.

A high-end BMW bike is 20000 € now, 10% of which is 2000 €. This would be the price of a modern Tele-Elmar ... ---

@spxxxx how do you like the 90mm ? I've seen some on ebay and at a vaguely reasonable price... but it is close to the 105mm macro nikkor I am using atm
For the money I think it is a good buy ... I don't think my copy is razor sharp like my cron 50 .... but I've yet to decide it it is the lens needing a service or my handholding skills

SLR lenses like the Elmarit-R perform well on mirrorless cams, the light rays hitting the sensor at a right angle. In use, the long adapter makes the camera very front-heavy.

(The R->M adapter is shorter, and an M with the Elmarit-R with live view may be a little more practical, but is still front-heavy.)

(Even with EVF, magnified focus spot this is not much fun in use for pics like the above. - Which does not speak against the lens; more against this deployment ... --- )

Another example of car-meeting-problems. Not only normal spectators, including nose-scanners, make taking pics difficult, but very often cars are parked very close together... ---

(I 'll go to a big U.S. car meeting this morning. I do not know the location. I hope, there will be enough space for the big U.S. barges ,,, )
