Magpies taken at Poterick Carr today.

1 For sorrow.
2 For joy.
3 For a girl.
4 For a boy.

Can't remember the rest, please feel free to complete the saying if you can.

Nice shots of these little pesky scavengers :cautious:

2 versions of rhyme,

One for sorrow,
two for mirth,
Three for a wedding,
four for a birth,
Five for silver,
six for gold,
Seven for a secret not to be told.
Eight for heaven,
nine for hell,
And ten for the devil's own sel'.

One for sorrow.
Two for joy.
Three for a girl.
Four for a boy.
Five for silver.
Six for gold.
Seven for a secret never to be told.
Eight's a wish.
Nine's a kiss.
Ten is a bird you must not miss,

Nice images of one of my favourite birds, Gordon (y)

You did a great lob of showing the oily colours and a super sharp eye on the first one

#1 for me Gordon, lovely detail and exposure.

Nice shots, but hate these birds, they thieve eggs and young from nests, we have doves and blackbirds nesting at the end of our garden, there was a right set to today, with 2 doves and 3 blackbirds defending their nests, when they tried robbing the nests

So do Jays  That is why the gamekeepers are busy this time of year.

I like that first shot. My first recollection of Magpies was in the mid to late sixties. They disappeared for a long spell in the seventies and eighties but have since returned in great numbers. I wonder what has changed. Oh and I don't believe in climate change before anyone says it.;)

If I remember correctly, the second version of the lyrics above were used for the theme song for the kid's programme 'Magpie'. Amazing the trivia you remember.
