Beginner One movement and my camouflage is blown

Species - Burhinus - Family - vermiculatus - Water Dikkop or Water Thick-knee

but as you saw them in Sri Lanka they would be Burhinus indicus - Indian Stone-curlew - (not the Southern African family)

Pity that you did not see the Great Thick-knee (Esacus recurvirostris)

Thanks Bill, I was sure they were Stone Curlew of some denomination, I should have bought a book on Sri Lankan birds - there are plenty, some easy to spot, and some are as good as invisible much to my annoyance

Thanks Trevor ... I have only ever seen them in S Africa where they are called Dikkops, (thick head in Afrikaans) I suppose because of their head and large eyes
