Pedal Power Thread

@dod wasn't a magic tyre was it :D

Woefully pathetic excuses for tyres, had one split on arrival and the other split after 3 rides.

I use continental GP4000 IIs now :)

For me, Saturday's club ride was truly grim, 3 degree avg temp and wind rain and fog so the ride was cut short to about 40 miles, went out again on the Sunday in better weather and had a rather spiffing jaunt so at least I ended the weekend around 90 miles i think.

@POAH , I have some of the Endura FS260 pro kit, (rain cape and s/s jersey) both are excellent, not so much a fan of the waterproof overshoes as they aren't waterproof but at least the toes stay warm. Also, Our club kit is being made by them this year :)

I bought the MT500 II shorts and jacket. I've got Northwave Celsius Arctic GTX goretex boots, sealskinz & merino wool socks too. My feet stay warm and toasty :D

No, they were decent from the LBS, didn't pay the headline price on the link though :) I don't skimp on the tyres usually

LBS is saying iot looks like the tube had been pinched, rubbed the tyre and that caused the blowout. Just as well I cut the ride short or I'd have been on top of a hill, miles from nowhere with a tyre with no side wall :D

This could be rather bad news for the consumer...

http://www.bikebiz.com/news/read/wiggle-set-to-acquire-chain-reaction-cycles/019056

mainly because the one reason that kept Wiggle's prices reasonably keen was a competitor of a similar size in CRC who continually undercut them... :(
Interesting stuff, and as you say, I don't think it's good new for the consumer. Hopefully they'll use the Chain Reaction website in future though as I find it much easier to find things on there than Wiggle.
And they better keep up the free Haribo!

I've been buying more of my larger stuff from Rose in deutschland, generally cheaper than CRC though with postage. They also sell Dynamo hubs much cheaper than UK shops, that and my diy lights seen me through a couple of winters.

Nice tip will have to check them out

I'd almost put money on nothing changing with the Wiggle/CRC thing.

Bridgeport Capital would be sensible to run them as 2 separate sister businesses, keeping CRC for the MTB side and Wiggle for the Road and Running side.

Whether or not it'll see prices inflated is another matter, but then recently neither has been particularly cheap.

Ex MTB'er turned Roadie.

Current bike is a 2015 Scott Addict Team.

Do a couple of rides a week, either a few laps round Richmond Park or I'll venture out if the weathers not bad.

unfortunate banner advert when I just looked at the story...

I bet that's pretty much how Merlin and all the other smaller online guys are feeling about the deal at the moment...

had a bike fit today,on first impressions well worth the money. Roads are too bad to do a proper ride but the spin round the streets in the town were like I was on a different bike.

Just had my road bike re-checked after 10 months of riding and as I had changed my shoes and saddle (through choice) and seatpost (not through choice - got jammed).

Mine was a Retul fit so we compared measurements and movement data and got me comfy again, with 12mm less hip movement (which is apparently good :D ), and some wedges under my cleats to align my feet correctly in these shoes. Did 85 miles this week and certainly a massive improvement (even on the last fit) in comfort and power.

Can't recommend them in general enough, and my fitter Vankru Cycling (Garth Kruger) enough.

That's what I had as well, the numbers don't honestly mean that much to me but here's the report. He dropped the bars, raised the saddle, lengthened the stem and sorted the clearts out. Turns out he's an ex commonwealth games rider and now the official bike fitter for PLanet X.

Uh oh, I just checked the weather forecast and it looks like this week's commute is all going to be on the bike with the spiked ice tyres!

@dod and @meonshore may I ask roughly how much one of those retul fittings are please?
I'm also thinking that once you've had a fitting you'd be much more aware of what a correct riding position feels like, so you could roughly transfer that to other bikes too (with much less precision of course). Would you guys agree with that at all?

Mine was £115 but that was discounted through a club deal, I think there were about 8-9 of us got done over two days. It also included a new stem but he traded in my old one

Honestly I'm not sure how much you can transfer, every bikes got its own geometry so they might make different alterations

Having a full on pro fit this year was just about the best money I've spent !

I picked up a right medial ligament strain prior to getting the fit, the changes in seat height, bar height etc were massive compared to where the initial fit had them. I'm now riding with more comfortably for longer and getting decent figures on the rides for speed and power :)

this is a great blog. It documents the progress of a guy at 42 who had a heart attack and turned to cycling, amongst other things, as a means to recovery. Turns out he's doing the Loch Ness Etape as well in a few weeks.

Some nice bikes on here, thought I'd introduce one of mine. It was taken in January on an overnight bivvy trip in the Berwyns.

well - I finally acknowledged old age and lack of fitness... Ultegra GS mech and a 12-30T mech fitted yesterday to the Dolan... Haven't managed to test it out IRL yet, but it certainly seemed to help when I tried the bike on the trainer this morning...

(may even have to swap to a set of 50/34 chainrings as well - but we'll see how it goes when the bike actually meets tarmac!)

A snipped quote from that press release...

Maybe making porn is teamwork but I doubt that much watching of it can be considered as such!

you're not watching it with the right people then lol

TBH, I'm more of a fan of the act as a pairs exercise than a spectator sport. ;)

Well - looks like "the wheels have come off" for BC's track team good and proper... suppose the domination they've had for the past couple of Olympic cycles had to end at some point, for the good of the sport overall if nothing else...

I'm guessing Shane Sutton's going to get carried out of the Velodrome in Rio on a triumphant teams shoulders... pity, it'll be the Aussies doing the carrying, but there you go... probably make him a Knight of the Order Of Australia for services to Aussie Track Cycling...

not many of these in the highlands

anyone moved from Shimano to SRAM and if so how easy was it to adjust? Just toying ;)

I have three road bikes - Ultegra 6870 Di2, Ultegra 6800 and SRAM Rival 22. I have no problem switching between the bikes, but I do have a preference. Di2 is best, SRAM Rival 22 next best and mechanical Ultegra comes last.

The reason I place mechanical Ultegra last is due to the need for manual trimming. This is not required with the other two systems.

Thanks Tim. Got to say it's an itch I think I have to scratch :)

Ive got SRAM Rival and actually really like double tap. I've never tried any of the high end Shimano group sets though.

ordered :)

Rose Xeon Team CGF - nice.

Have you bought "blind" from Rose or have you had a try?
