Yes - as long as the Plus II is an EU version as well.
You obviously don't get eTTL but you can use Hypersync (and rear sync I believe too - although I use mini and flexes so not 100% on this)

Its just that in the past I have found the plus II cumbersome when on camera this seems like an easy solution, and as you have said works fine. I seldom use eTTL in anycase so not much of a sacrific

Yeah the mini is great for on camera - I started with a flex and thought that was a little bulky too. I find eTTL useful for weddings but otherwise I'd probably have gone down your route.

Just to balance out Ali's issues, I haven't had any misfires since I got mine other than when testing the extremes (40m with a 580ex II, more than I bothered to test with 550ex and 430ex II)
Suspect Ali got one from a bad batch, but there are plenty of people who are using them with success (see Damien Lovegrove's site for example).
