For me, #1 has too little detail in that large expanse of very dark foreground. Taking up half the frame its too dominating.
I like the silhouette of the tree against the sky, but there isn't enough of it and its been clipped at the top. Makes me feel like the frame should have been moved up, or zoomed out more. I wonder whether a landscape version with more sky, less dark foreground, and the tree silhouetted would have worked better.
I like #2, good composition in my opinion. Might perhaps crop out the dark grass in the foreground as it draws my eye too much.
