The rufous-backed kingfisher (Ceyx rufidorsa) is a species of bird in the Alcedinidae family. It is found in Brunei, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand in tropical lowland forests near lakeshores and streamsides. The small bird is solitary and hunts from a low perch over the water by diving for insects and frogs. It is sometimes considered a subspecies of the Oriental dwarf kingfisher.

Wow! what stunning colours, I do not recall seeing this KF shown on a photography forum before. The dark BG looks like it was taken in woodland/forest situation?

Lovely colours :)

wow!!!! Never seen this bird before, love the shot very impressive

Just to add to everyone else - wow! Beautiful shot of a beautiful bird! It really stands out against the background.

Very nice, looks much sharper on flickr. Not sure why this place seems to make photos look worse?

Beautiful shot. Love the slight irridiscence showing through on the back of the bird.

Fantastic shot..I called my wife to see it and she said..'Ah..poor fish"..Lol. But also said "Wow"

Damn.... left out again because my life is not Apple rich

Box, the KF was photgraphed above a stream covered by tropical forest vegetation. I am thankful that the foreground was cleared for bounced sunlight to enter.

chuckles, I mentioned "Retina Display" as more people would understand it over "best viewed on a display with a resolution of 2000 x 1500 pixels". More people have tablets and smartphones than PCs. ;)
