Critique Sam & Dale

Sam and Dale are a pair of black labradors who belong to a friend. Dale is 19 years old, and has long since retired. Sam is still very much a working gun dog. It's funny to watch his owner's discomfort when his highly trained gun dog lies on his back on the floor of the pub, expecting a tummy rub

They're both delightful chaps. I'm not a particularly good dogtographer, so any hints and tips would be appreciated.

I think 1& 2 maybe the same?
Try not to clip ears, and watch the backgrounds, the cushions(?) in the background are quite distracting,
especially as the dogs are very dark, in colour.

I like the DoF in 1 Sam's eyes look nice and bright too.

Lovely doleful expression in 3,
but try a little levels boost, it should make Sam stand out a little more

but the dresser top(?) going through his neck is distracting

Sam is the typical Lab, sad eyed and you have no choice other than to pet, pat, feed him!
