I went back today to get some better picture of the Whitethroats – saw one but way off.
Got a couple of others though...
1) Juvenile Blackbird ? – taken in the undergrowth.

3) Chaffinch – from the otherside of the tree, with lunch – he was calling all the time but the family didn’t show so I left him to it.

I noticed your shutter speed being on the low side, at 500mm you be aiming for at least 1/500 sec.
If you change from F8 to F7.1 or even F6.3, that will increase your shutter speed and result in sharper images.

You’re right Dougie, but it was pretty dark under the trees and in the bushes.
F8 seems to give the sharpest images with this lens and I prefer to hand hold the camera for walk-about field photography. I find using a tripod or monopod too cumbersome when you spot something that is only going to be there for a few seconds. I haven’t worked the numbers through but 500mm at F6.3, ISO800 would only be around 1/80s.

Looks like a young blackbird to me.
Thanks for the confirmation Ken.
