Wild Swans! …post them in this communal thread.

Heres a profile shot of the Swan thats in the pic above.

Swans Profile by Graham, on Flickr

I've never seen "live" one of these!
Do they seem to have a longer neck and a shorter body, Graham?
I would have to spent sometime observing the whites and black
together to figure out which I would prefer.

I think they are the same just the colour is different.
Originally from Australia, Not this one but in general.
PS, this is a adult (white wing tips)

You've succeeded, with this swan, the less natural looking
rendition of that bird I've ever seen, Ann! This is not a bad
observation from my part but the full acknowledgement of
a well inspired and tastefully achieved artistic intent.

Your bird looks like made of alabaster, or other plastic rock,
that conveys beauty and transparence at the same time. It is
with immense pleasure that I write this. Thank you, Ann.

I "think" you like it? I know everyone likes pin sharp images with lots of detail but sometimes i like a softer look and on this occasion i felt this was a better option? The light was soft, the birds feathers are soft i was trying to convey it was a warm and calming atmosphere and i like to be different lol :)

A portrait shot from the weekend.

As I was crouched by the waterside shooting, one of them came right up to me and even gave my lens hood a gentle peck. Obviously I had a lens on with a minimum focus distance of about 5ft so couldn't take any close ups of it.

Here's a couple...........
Please click on imges for the larger view, thanks.

Very nice takes, here Tom! (y)(y)(y)

For the challenge of it, try getting the head and neck centred
in the reflection like in shots #3 and between the wings #2.

Did you try to raise the shadows in #1?

Thanks Daniel, they've all just been cropped a little, nothing else.
They were minus exp' comp' in camera to try and stop the whites blowing and i'm still shooting jpeg only.

he followed me along the river for over an hour.
