The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Well that doesn't look terrifying at all. It's a long time since I tore something down like that, and it was far simpler and less expensive (an old loox). Good job on the repair.

Ws it your full teardown on DPreview to make it full spectrum?
No, I didn't convert it to full spectrum, but it's easy to do, just need to have replacement filter. Or just remove the IR filter from the sensor completely.
I'm trying to convert Fujifilm X to IR, but there is more work to do for the disassembly + RE.

dropped my A7R, bent the mounting ring and sheered two screw holders on the chassis

Can anyone tell me if any of the A7 cameras have an optical viewfinder mode or is it just exposure view only. Just comes in handy when shooting manual flash and you don't need a preview. My Xt1 had this and it worked brilliantly.

Exposure preview can be turned off in Custom Settings>Live View Display> Sets whether to reflect settings such as exposure compensation in screen display. (Setting Effect ON/Setting Effect OFF).

Thought you wouldve already bought it by now;)

Thanks for that.

@twist, hanging on to see what Sony announce in the next week or so regarding the new A9/a7rii.

Agreed, I'm also wondering how the price might reflect on current models, if at all. I'll kick myself if it does.

Not quite sure, I think the prices have hit a sweet spot for most and the newer models are going to cost so much that even at current/slightly less than current prices they are still seen as great value so will hold.

Prices in Europe do tend to hold strong but the greys seem a little more volatile I've noticed.

I am hoping Sony announce a new Pro-level A9 body [emoji5]️[emoji39]

Im hoping for an A7000.

Im hoping for some decent primes but then I have what I need and the rest would just be spending for the hell of it.

I'm also hoping they update the 24-70 f4 for some corner sharpness and remove the onion ring bokeh. This lens should have been nailed.
Fat chance of that happening.

Agreed, fat chance. Why not get the 16-35?

I'd be very happy to see 28mm f2.8, 50 and 85mm f1.4/f1.8, 135mm f2.8 and a longish macro.

So far it looks like the 28 and 50mm's are going to be in place with the 28mm being a wider aperture than I expected. I do expect 85 and 135mm offerings at some point too but as the macro is 90mm I suppose anything longer is going to be way off in the future.

I'm sure that we all have our own idea of what a basic system should be but for me 28, 50, 85, 135mm primes and maybe 150mm for the macro makes for an attractive system. I suppose something like 16-35, 28-70 and 70-200mm makes sense for zooms.

I havent heard anything about an 85mm Loxia.

Yep sorry Otus. A Zeiss 85mm 1.4 anyway. A new one.

And it's huge.

Golly :D That's a beast but as the 55mm f1.8 is rather nice and the Sigma Art gets rave reviews I wonder what this brings to the table over and above the cheaper AF offerings?

And on the subject of is more really more and as there's excitement, dismay, cheering and handwringing in Canon land I wonder how much difference there is between 36 and 50mp? Enough to matter? I dunno...

Uncompromised IQ apparently, equivalent of a F1 race car in the camera world, atleast that what they say. They look a massive beast on the A7 though and with that price tag don't think I'd want to be walking around the streets with it.

Yup. Otus = best, simple.

Whether it suits a little A7 doesnt matter, optically its the best for people who dont want compromise. As you can see its clearly not native and wasnt ever designed to be a good balance for CSC.

I've got the 55 Otus and they are in a class of their own. The new 50mp class of sensors should make them shine, hopefully Sony is making a new sensor for their A8 or Nikon's D900 or whatever.

CSC are IMVHO lightyears ahead of DSLR's for manual focus and I wonder how many people will be focusing that lens through the ovf of a modern DSLR. Good luck to them.
I still wonder how close you have to look to see the betterness.

Not very, they are extremely good, and a great "look"
Still think its stupid Sony haven't gotten Zeiss to make them in a mount

I doubt I'll ever try one and I haven't looked at any samples but I might just to see what all the fuss is about :D I can't see myself ever buying a lens at this end of the market as I seem to have a pretty low threshold of what I find acceptable :D

My old manual lenses seem to produce pictures that are good enough for me and family and friends who looks at my pictures. I think that they show their lack of ability at the widest apertures and at the edges and the shape of the aperture blades might not be to everyone's tastes (but no one looking at my pictures has ever commented on the shape of out of focus highlights) but apart from those provisos and when stopped down I think that the performance of every old lens I own is respectable in whole image form and in the centre they even stand up to pixel peeping. Pixel peeping the whole image is a different matter but maybe that's not how normal people usually look at pictures :D My old 85mm are a tad weaker than the 50's but still ok once stopped down a bit.

I've only ever had a few lenses which disappointed me, the Canon 10-22 and 17-85mm and an old manual 70-200mm but other than those I've been reasonably happy with pretty humble mass market lenses and I really can't see myself wanting better than the better lenses I've owned...

For DSLR's the Sigma 50 and 85mm f1.4's, for MFT the Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 and I suppose the Sony 55mm f1.8.

As I've said a few times, if they could keep the form reasonably compact and light what I'd like to see is a range of more humble lenses. Lenses not aiming to be amongst the best mass market lenses on sale like the 55mm f1.8, just pretty good / good enough :D

Rumours... :D

"Sony Artisan Brian Smith: “someone might just make a 50mp camera for less than 3700 bucks!”"

"He is likely “hearing” the same rumors I got….sounds exactly like the A7rII to me."

Read all about it...

There may be an announcement "soon" but these are so far only rumours :D

To many pixels for me, good advancement though and should do some damage against 5ds sales if they can produce a specialist lens, especially with it being a Sony sensor.

Hopefully they've been designing lenses that can make use of a 50mp sensor.

I have no plans to change my A7.

I'm considering it but I think it might turn out a very expensive exercise. I'd love one for landscapes but I fear my 2007 imac is already quaking at the thought.
