It's a Jackdaw actually Stephen. I have reservations about wildlife images in mono, usually prefering to see the colour of nature.
Are they full frame shots? If so you've thought about the framing. They'll perhaps stand a sharpen, but good effort mate.

I like some wildlife stuff in black and white and this subject suits it.The first one is the better of the two.I like how the bird is looking along the fenceline.It is a clean and simple image,gets a ..................from me.

The black and white conversion was mainly due to the noise caused by using a high iso to get a decent shutter speed in poor light with a and slow lens at it's maximum focal length - 70-300mm f/4-5.6.
Plus in colour the bird just didn't stand out from the background.
