Hey up...

Well Matt's 1st track day... couldnt miss a few photos! only a few as only saw 5 laps or so as had to get back to the office!

What a damp day!! if the roads (and mini on its roof!) were anything to go by the track would be a little 'fun'!

Foul light and that fine rain that soaks you but a few... C&C welcome but i know there not the best (sorry matt!)

let the banter begin!!

bob :)

LOL, I am a bit shook up TBH, will explain in a minute!

Nice work editing out the tow truck :cautious:

LOLOLOL!

That looks rather tame from there but my god it didnt feel it LOL

Classic "how not to do it" clip.

One of four in that lap alone

Nice pics!

hope you had a good time matt!

has the track bug bitten you?

I did indeed.

Bit??? it has ate half of me LOL!!

As for the reference to the fun at the end, I ballsed up foulstons and went grass tracking across the grass so called an end to that session. Then went out for my final session and ended up doing a 360 and throwing into the scenery on my last run! No damage done apart from to my trousers and the mud on the wheels LOL!

Oh and then I went out in the M3 and the driver lost it at shell oils, foulston, druids AND lakeside. Apparntly we hit the barrrier, I cant remeber, my eyes were shut LOL!!

OH and if you are thinking of doing a trackday, DO IT!!!!! THEY ARE AWESOME!!

You did do a James May did you Matt

Sounds like you enjoyed the experience, on track next year, rather than behind the camera

Well done Matt and i have to agree i have done 5 trackdays now and like matt says if you do one you will want to do more

Matt, how much is track day insurance?

Not worth bothering for the price. Don't know how much it would be for cars unfortunately, but in my experience of motorbike it's just not worth it.

Glad you had a good time Matt, trackdays are addictive. You'll be wanting to start racing next. :D

Can I whore one of my trackday pics now?

will stick the photos onto a CD matt and bring them at the weekend.... :)

when i did a track day, i was quoted £5k with £1k excess! the car was only worth £6k!! so just took it easy and enjoined the drive as apposed to trying to set lap records! some specialist insurance companies will do trackday cover as part of your insurance at no extra cost, usually affiliated with owners clubs..

some people cover their number plates with tape so there is no proof you have been on the track (i believe the track have to log registration plates of on track cars)... so if you do bump it 'may not' have happened on the track.... if you catch my drift! :)

Again in my experience of bike trackdays I've never seen anyone writing down motorcycle numberplates. I'm pretty sure it's just an urban myth put about by the insurance companies.

I'm not too sure on that being entirely an urban myth. I've covered a few trackdays, usually out in the middle of nowhere and on occasions have noticed a random car sitting fairly near the entrance/exit. Could be coincidence, but I suspect it's someone paid for by insurance companies just to keep an eye out.

The venue owners and organisers couldn't care less, and are under no obligation to pass on any info unless it's part of a criminal investigation. And let's face it, the organisers have already got your details so you won't see anyone writing it down.

I have trackday insurance added as part of my cars policy. It's a group 20 car, but only £378 this year fully comp with trackday insurance. I guess it helps being older and living somewhere nice.

Only problem is the excess goes up to £750 on a track.

Not worth it probably for your car Matt, but worth it for nice cars as sometimes it's not your fault. This guy didn't have it.

Oh and check your brake pads. I eat mine after two trackdays.

good fun aint it!

Though you car looks so HIGH!!! haha.

Cant wait to get back to the UK and get the rallye out on track again

thanks all for you photos and comments. I had no insurance as I didnt have the cash lol. I just took it steady and had fun rather than going banzee and ending up in a barreir :)

All my these pictures are on facebook (my profile is 'matt sayle') and i have put your photobukcet/flickr accounts as the comments so that you (hopefully) get something out of it :) If you ave a problem then PM me and I will remove them :)

RIght then, get comfy :hehe:

MONDAY

On Monday night me and my dad put some new brake pads on my car. Some Greenstuff pads. The difference is immense and there is no fade at all. I am also happy that they are not that obvious!

TUESDAY

The night before. I was like a kid before christmas!!!The jobs were to take out the backseats and to give it a damn good clean. Couldnt beleive how much stuff was in my car!: Anyway, it all went and the car was nicknamed 'Ferrari Corsa Scuderia'. Why? Ferrari becuase it is red. Corsa becuase you have to be honest, And Scuderia due to the wiat saving measures

WEDNESDAY

The big day. I woke up at 6am. Creeped slowly over to the curtains to see the lovely sunrise, only to be greeted to a total washout!!!! I was not detered however. A good time to learn more about understeer!!!!!!! I still had the most fun ever, though. I was the slowest thing out there, but i didnt care. I had so much fun, it was unreal! I only made 2 major mistakes. I went straight over the grass at Foulstons on the second to last sesion (went in to hot) so came in to check over the car and it was fine but called time on that session just in case! Then I went out for my last session and I must admit, I had the 'time to go for it' attitude. Not a good idea considering the conditions. After the first two cornors in the monsoon I slowed down and just played it safe. Only to end up on the inside of druids! I managed to spin it! Do'h. Called it a day then do I didnt do any serious damage! Oh and I overtook a car :woohoo: Dont give me any technical stuff that the Ginetta would have to go slow due to it being real wheel drive. I dont care. I OVERTOOK it  It had me on the straights but in the cornors I was on him like a rash :D:D So he let me past and i went on my way. I was well chuffed!! SHame everything else overtook me. I just stayed out of the way and let them past. I dont care that I Was slow, overtaken, slow and overtaken again. I has so much fun :D

The pictures are here:

So if you are thinking of doing a trackday, stop thinking, get booking. Oh and do it at Oulton. It is such a rewarding track. You know when you get right and you can feel yourself imprvoing. The instructors are also very good indeed. I found myself going a lot smoother afterwards. An absoulte bargain at £25!!

Never done a track day BUT I compete on Night time road rallies much more fun believe you me,oh and was once told by Gerry marshall to stick to rallying due to my as he said absurd lines going into lodge. He could not pass me simply because one vauxhall Chevette filles the track up going sideways into it and other corners !!!!!! Well I was on my forset tyres, could not afford racers.Oh those were the days
