Correct, told you it was easy, i also do not have the zoomed out picture to prove, but... who cares! your turn!

You know what the biggest clue was? The tiny drop of paint. All thermostats seem to have drops of paint on them like that.

The dark patch on the closest 'eye' is actually the reflection of my camera lens. It was quite a trusting dragonfly letting me get close enough.

I'd have been sacked if I'd left even a tiny drop like that on any electrical fittings - everything was either properly masked or unscrewed from the wall and covered.
 
I had in mind one of those things that Camel herders have,,,, a stick thingo with a furry end that they use to either cool off or swish flies off with.
