Hi,

Still looking at cameras and lenses. Looking only for now :/

Anyway came across a 35mm shift lens (pc not pce).

Has anyone had/used/got one of these and how have they found using it?

Comments on other websites suggest it is a difficult lens to use and that the results would be easier (on digital) via photoshop.

Would an 85mm shift be better or a wider one (24mm) ?

or would you save your money?

I'd probably get one if I could decide which I'd use most :)

You can imitate some things in photoshop but not all; you cannot, for example, shift the focus to get better DOF after the event.

As for focal length, it depends what you want to do. Wider might be more useful for landscape and architecture, longer for product shots -- but there are no rules.

If you are seriously considering the older PC lenses, do be careful which ones you look at as some are listed as incompatible with modern bodies. The D90 manual, for example, lists the following as incompatible:

PC 28/4 serial number 180900 or earlier
PC 35/2.8 serial numbers 851001-906200
PC 35/3.5 (old type)

So check your manual before you buy.

What you wanting the tilt-shift for ? If it's for wide landscapes, then for PS you still need 2 photos to stitch together. This is the use I'd have for one, but I just can't justify the cost.
