Can anyone recommend a really good tripod and head combo that fits these requirements...?
  • Well made, reliable and very stable
  • Capable of supporting up to 5kg of camera or other equipment without strain
  • Capable of being easily transported from car to studio and back (but not necessarily lugged up a mountain)
  • Quick to put up, adjust, move, adjust, put away etc
  • Doesn't cost an arm and a leg
If it has a reliable level built into the head then so much the better.

I have a redsnapper tripod and couldn't be happier, really good after sales service as well. Once i broke a part ( my fault) called them up and arranged to have a replacement part sent which didn't cost an arm and a leg.

:agree: I just got a 284 last week. Excellent service and a lovely piece of kit for the money.

I'd recommend Gitzo's as they're built like a rock however, they are expensive.

Manfrotto are very good as well. Best thing I'd suggest is go in their website. Apart from the Gitzo I also use a Manfrotto 190 for my spotting scope and digicam work. Cost around £150.

You will get a lot of replies recommending this, that & the other as I've just done. Look online and then go and try them. That's the best way of ensuring you get what you want and with what you need.

I bought a redsnapper last week, and have been stunned at the ease of use and build quality.
