up helly aa festival

on holiday in shetland for 2 weeks.
on tuesday we went to the annual up helly aa festival.
its when a replica viking galley is pulled through the streets followed by 1000 torch bearing vikings and some others dressed in fancy dress.
its an amazing festival.
weather was awful rain, winds sleet, snow,
photography was challenging to say the least, but here are a couple from the night

was a great day/night. except for the weather. but it goes on regardless.
think its only been cancelled 3 times in100 yrs
queen victorias death churchills death and a war
so the adverse cold weather we had wasn't going to spoil the party
just difficult to photograph with the wind / rain

I think the 1st is great......conjures up so many possibilities of what's going on there! Must have been a great spectacle to watch.
