Urgent help[ needed Canon 550 menu has "protected images!

Here's hoping someone can help my friend. She has a Canon 550D and somehow has set the menu to protect images, by mistake. However, she says she can't unprotect! I'm at the other end of the country, so am having to take her word for it. On my 6D, there is an option to un-protect, but she says that's not the case with her camera.
Can anyone help? She is very new to photography.

You should have referred her to the instructions, they are quite clear.

Pressing the <SET> button whilst viewing the protected image will unprotect it.
