Variable ND Filters

Hi all, I'm looking to get either a variable ND filter or the type like slides. I really don't know which is best or easiest to use, I like photography for just a bit of a hobby so nothing too expensive but with decent results.

I would want to use on my main lens 24-105mm sigma art with 82mm thread.
Any recommendations?

I use a variable ND filter for video but to be honest I don't think I would recommend one for photography. Mine is a Tiffen & cost over £120 but gives very good results without softening the image. The cheaper ones aren't very good to be honest, I've tried a few in the past.

When you say "type like slides" do you mean slot in filters?
