The first and last are nice captures, but the background on all of them is hideous :D

I know how difficult these are to get as I can never nail the focus.

No2 out of these for me Ruth as it reminds me of a sealion playing with a beach ball.

Nice set

Good effort Ruth (y) backgrounds a bit poo though :D

Technical suggestions have been done to death lately Ruth if you have a root through the forum. Besides that my suggestion would be to keep trying different setups. Once you find the "right" setup it all falls in to place and is easy to replicate every time you attempt some. It's a lot of trial and error to start with.

Dish of water, lay a skewer or something similar to focus on, across under the drip. Bottle preferably with a home brew tap stuck in it for the drips.
A4 backround or an object of your choice to reflect in the drops. I got some nice abstract ones using foil in the bottom of the dish with coloured gels thrown in. Like this

my setup is different now, i bought a Hiviz light trigger http://www.hiviz.com/kits/spg-du.htm so i have consistent results. A bit nerdie I guess but its out of my system now

Thanks for the feedback guys - noted on the background - will find some other stuff ;)

animal i don't have that kind of stuff lying around :( there is a pic of my set up on flickr am having to drop the water manually.

BTW i went with that background to get the stars in the drops

Not bad first efforts there Toothie, addictive aren't they! 19 out of 208? Seems to be about on a par with what I keep, the amount of times I miss the drop is unbelievable.
As for backgrounds, you could try throwing them out by using a shallow DoF if you wanted to, seems to work ok for me.

I've just ordered one of these last week animal, with the IR and sound triggers. Does it do what it's supposed to? Are they any good? Any tips?

don't know about the sound trigger, i have not set mine up yet, a bit busy.
The photogate does what it says on the label. Tips
Tell you what, I will tog my setup and do a little post on it later. Save going over it again for other interested parties.

I know the last one is a little soft but i like way way it looks like someone shaking off the water.
