Hi all could any one given me any suggestion to what I should have in my bag as basic equipment. At the moment all I have a the camera polarising filter and a second hand small tripod??

I'd say no more than you think you'll need for that days shooting. It's so easy to start collecting stuff to the extent that it bogs you down!

But having said that, spare memory card, spare batteries, a rocket blower and a lens brush are all pretty much essential. Oh... and a plastic bag, even an old supermarket bag can keep the camera dry in a rainstorm and it costs nothing.

cheers

landscapes will require items like:

wide angle lens
telephoto lens (yes, it does have a nice effect on landscapes)
remote shutter
filters (these are your friends in the landscape industry)
food (for long treks)
tent (for overnight stays when sun is critical)
tripod

and thats all i know for landscapes

wildlife:

telephoto lens
remote shutter
hide
a nice little stool
small pair of binoculars
plastic bags (to avoid cameras getting wet or covered in mud)

If you are looking for cheapo gadgets to go with the above two, consider a raincoat for your camera, optech ones are around £5 for two.

Edit: Thinking about it, you probably want one for yourself as well

Which filters would you suggest are ND
any good. I understand they will reduce light and increase reflection?

Im suprised no one has mentioed a camera yet?

Good job I have one already just need to add a few things to the bag

loads of spare batteries ive just been to zoo and forgot mine:bonk::bonk::bonk::bonk:

Fingerless gloves and a hat. Mobile phone. Pen. Paracetamol. Bottle of water.

Oh and I've just bought a compass. Very useful.

A tent!!!! :help:

Well maybe, for extreme landscaping.

I would replace the telephoto with a standard lens. Include ND grads and plain ND filters as well as your polarising filter.
Add a flask to the food and take waterproofs. I always carry a fold up matt to sit on, and I usually always have a pair of wellies in the car for landscapes on the beach.
