flickr seems to be used alot
or should I set up a gallery on a web host ? any recommendations
I require automatic resizing and watermarking so far any thing else I should consider

Hiya, not sure if this will fit your requirements but I've used 000webhosting in the past. Its free and pretty well featured (php, mysql reasonable amount of space, bandwidth and uptime). You could install WordPress and a image gallery theme on there, or use something like jalbum, but I'm not sure how dynamic that is..
