Which Nikon lens

I want a all-in-one zoom but not sure which one to get. Its going to be either of the following.
The same lens, but one older than the other.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Or

Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR

Which one would you go for and why?

I'm not saying Uncle Ken is always fully correct, but this page (http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/18-300mm-vr.htm) will give you a run down of the differences.

It's lighter but also 1/3rd stop slower at the long end.

Ok, so the newer version is better all round albeit slightly slower at the longer end. So no reason whatsoever to even contemplate getting the slightly older rev.
So what lens hood should fit this newer of the two? as I'm guessing the two lens use a different dia one.

I should imagine it comes with a lens hood? I think it says on ken's article which one it is, not sure off the top of my head.

Had a look and it dosn't come with a hood, but the older ver does. It does state having a 67mm filter thread, so I'd imagine a 67mm hood then, or maybe not.

I've never used either one of those so can't pass comment, but I did have a Tamron 28-300 VC for a while (bought specifically for a holiday to Disney), not sure what they go for now, but worth considering.

The f/3.5-6.3 takes a HB-39 hood.
