The start of the Winter Hill Fell race in about 1 1/2 miles from home, so I had to go and take a look this morning.

These where about 1 mile after the start on the 11 mile race and some look very tired at this point, god knows what they were like at the end. I took the wrong lens up the hill it' would have been better with something wider than to 70-200, but no way was I trekking down and back again, but note for next year.

I professionally covered around 40 events last year(running/triathlon/cycling), and found that any event where the race is large or short (i.e. the runners are close together) then the 24-105 is the lens to use - the 70-200 stays on the second body as backup and for if the light drops too much. On a 1.6 crop the 24-70 f2.8 may work better but it is expensive..

First one is the pick of the three, nice aspect. Your 17-55 would have been perfect, I find myself using the shortie for most running type races.

I hate bunch races!!!:bang:
