Well, after some advice from a couple of people on this site I ventured out today to have a go at photographing the World Rally Championships in Wales. It is my FIRST attempt at photographing motor sport so I am a complete novice at this. I had an enjoyable day and I have to say I managed a few pictures I am happy with.

Nice, I'm here now, well having a pint or two at the Cann Office Inn and will be up at the Forrest tomorrow To hopefully catch a couple of descent pictures

Awesome set - really impressive for a first attempt

Great! Sat in a hotel in llangollen now prepping for Cloc East tomorrow morning. Fairly pleased with my shots but they're not on par with these. Excellent job! Are these from Sweet Lamb?

They can get a bit same-ish as it's awkward to move once the race has started. I tried in one spot but didn't like the vantage point - too high. Found I was looking down on the cars. Found another spot - hairpin bend where the escort was taken in the first pic here. Decided to move on to see if I could find some water. Managed to so once the main race started again at 1pm just spent the last hour there as the cars splashed through.

nice, that's where I was today too. Were you far along the stage? I feel like I walked for miles (was a 55mins walk back to my car) but i didn't see as dramatic scenes as you've captured here

Great shots! So annoyed I couldn't get there this year due to commitments!! Will be following it all online and look forward to more pics

Great set, I'm about to head down to the service park but wondering if theres anything to go see tomorrow where I might get some action shots.

What kit were you shooting with?

This mornings WRC stage got cancelled after a 10 cars due to a medical emergency with a Marshall so only managed few WRC photos, nothing spectacular but the Nationals cars were good and made up a bit

Shooting with a Canon 7D and mixture of two lenses. Canon 24-105mm F4 L and a 70-200mm F2.8 L. Took a monopod but never used it. And yes it took me about an hour to walk back to the car as well, but so worth it.

That's an excellent set... Maesnant had more water on the track than we had over on the Dyfi stage. (y)

Dave, it was me you were chatting with at that watersplash in Gartheiniog ;)

Fantastic effort for your first go at Rallying!

Good to meet up with you all. Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the water splash corner ;-)
Have you sorted/uploaded any of your pictures yet? I'd be interested to see some.
