I got a new 50mm F1.8. Manual focusing is really exciting for me. As a landscape tog, I tend to focus to infinity and set to F11 to F16 to get a full DoF

On a crop body, its a little tight and restrictive, but I will be buying a FF body (D600 or D800/D800E). I certainly want something more capable at night/low light.

4. It allows you to isolate your subject well. Just get the nack of focussing yourself.

5. I used the cheap Kit Lens for this.

Plonked the camera on the ground, set to self timer after metering for exposure (F4 IIRC not a huge depth needed)

5 and 6
the others are expositions of your dof controlling capabilities and for me dont really come over as interesting as the last two
the last one is very dynamic and full of interest
crop out the upper nothingness to make the orchestra more into the middle interest zone
cheers

If it was mine, i would leave the crucifix in and crop the rest.
