I got a new 50mm F1.8. Manual focusing is really exciting for me. As a landscape tog, I tend to focus to infinity and set to F11 to F16 to get a full DoF
On a crop body, its a little tight and restrictive, but I will be buying a FF body (D600 or D800/D800E). I certainly want something more capable at night/low light.

4. It allows you to isolate your subject well. Just get the nack of focussing yourself.

5. I used the cheap Kit Lens for this.
Plonked the camera on the ground, set to self timer after metering for exposure (F4 IIRC not a huge depth needed)
