York street shot + candids

very nice shots Sean - I particularly like the b/w. :thumb:

regards

Thanks for the comment and for taking the time to check them out

Cheers

I have to say, I really like the sepia processing you have going there :). Also, the image with your partner in could easisily be mistaken for a canon advert if the focus was slightly different!

Thanks,

Diane thinks her eyes being closed is not very flattering, but i don't know anybody that can manage to look through a view finder with out squinting one eye (women)

It's actually a ps plug in from Fred Miranda "Bw work flow pro" The mix is Burgundy gold and black. There's loads of filters, can be as complex or simple as you want it to be, can use manual control or just a preset, it's very good i have to say

Hi Sean, good to see you posting again :thumb:

Some very nice shots there, and even more on your site... that 35mm is really doing the business isn't it!!

That FM plug-in really does add a nice effect, I might have a look for that myself.

Thanks for sharing mate.

I am steve, 20D 10D and four lenses. Round the bars and all that, as always.

Iain, that 35 is simply a stella lens.

Thanks fellas

Nice work! Love the sepia tone. :thumb:

Somew good shots there Sean. Like others really like the monochrome. Skipping through some of your other shots love the guy on laptop in bar.

First and last for me too ... but a great set of shots Sean ! Mono ones really work well in both cases ! Well spotted for the beggar ... assuming that is what he is !

Do you not get probs shooting in bars/cafes at all ? Or does your technique somehow cover up the taking ? Impressive candids anyway !

TFS ...

All very good captures - first is an obvious choice - the subject, the tones, and the weather, the overall expression and composure of the subject are all uncannily perfect for this image.

Also like the chimper, hes so engrossed, he seems to be proud as punch with whatever hes captured while his partner looks to be checking for the next subject to visit.

These are just my favourites - but all are great shots, thanks for sharing:thumb:

Thanks pal

He was indeed a beggar, a dropped a couple of quid off in his hat after (not for a pose i might add lol). This shot of another beggar, was something i just had to shoot and explain later, i knew she was going to notice me i wanted her to look up at me, as i wanted show how girls in her situation are literally and figuratively looked down on. Had a little chat with her after, very nice kid. I explained myself, she got it.

I've never had a single problem in a bar. Anybody near me knows i have a camera, i use short lenses. But i try my best to pick the right time, and i hardly ever get noticed. I'd like to put that down to skill, but its true that people actually do their own thing and forget the world around them. Which is what i hope for

I got in a fight last year, i have the shot that caused the fight. went against everything i normally do. Took a shot of two guys hugging, was way too far away to tell they were half cut., & i appeared out of the blue. Ended up with four of us fighting in the road while my partner and friend ran off down the street with my gear.

Never put me off, i took this shot a few hrs after the fight http://www.pbase.com/sean_mcr/image/54652229 .

There is no real difficulty in getting shots of people with out them knowing. The hard part is trying to make it interesting.

Thanks pal

I really like the first to.

Yeah that chimper was well away, i as pratically facing the chap. My gran could have shot him with mittens on

really enjoyed those shots, i must get my self out to have a go soon.

Here's a few shots to illustrate that people actually like having their photo taken. with in 30 mins of the fight. This lot asked me to take their photo http://www.pbase.com/sean_mcr/image/54971877

Later that night i just pointed the camera right at people, wanted them to see, to see their reaction. Alls i got was smiles. This girl did this when i pointed the lens at her http://www.pbase.com/sean_mcr/image/54971880

Another did this http://www.pbase.com/sean_mcr/image/54971881

Another this http://www.pbase.com/sean_mcr/image/54971878

Two mates http://www.pbase.com/sean_mcr/image/54971879

Restored my faith in what i was doing, after the fight.

Anybody that want's to take candids of people. Should not feel they have to hide, or shoot them from half a block away.

Candid:

free from bias, prejudice, or malice

marked by honest sincere expression

indicating or suggesting sincere honesty and absence of deception

Looking at the bird shots I would say having a camera is a f*nny magnet & you end up beating them off with a ****ty stick ;)

Well ... whatever it takes Sean you seem to have cracked it !

Some really great shots candid and posed in the various selections.

TFS once more !
