Your shots with the Raynox DCR250

My 250 arrived about 15 minutes ago :D
These are the first 3 shots I took with it, hand held.

Not up to the standards of others on here but I have plenty of time.

These were taken with a 1000D and a canon standard kit lens.

off to a good start Colin, you need to look at stopping the lens down ... a lot... f/11 or so to get some DOF, that means you'll need more light... or a tripod...

Or both

Great start Colin, the Raynox should carry an addiction warning :rules:

Look forward to seeing more from you soon (y)

Nice start.

Still pi55ing down here in Glasgow but might try some bubbles later!!

I'm thinking of getting a 150 as well, has anyone tried stacking the 250 + 150? Or would it be better to go for a cheapish set of tubes? The main reason I'm thinking of the 150 is for less magnification but I wouldn't mind trying to stack them :D

Someone use to own, the 150, 250 and MSN202... not sure you can stack them though... I've added a 2xTC and a set of tubes to get more magnification with my 250. If I want less, I tend to use it with my 50mm

I have read somewhere before that you can stack them but I can't remember where, I assumed you'd need a step up/down ring. I might have to do a bit of research :D

Ah well, i've input here so i suppose i'd better put one of my efforts up, shot today with DCR 250 on the front of my 55-250mm ISO 400 - 1/125th - f16 and milk bottle on board flash diffuser :)

Have now had my Raynox 250 for a princely total of fifteen minutes and already the cat is hiding the other end of the house!

Might have to find some less mobile objects for my first try!!!

OK. So after about an hour of trial and (a large quantity of) error. I finally managed to get a fairly good shot of two flies getting jiggy on my fence!

First attempt at posting a picture here hopefully it will work, a bee I took handheld, with cannon 70-300mm and obviously the DCR250.

Just come across this thread. I bought my 250 ages ago and haven't used it hardly at all. These images have made me re think. I'll dig it out and dust it off for a few pics. Meanwhile this is probably the only photo I have taken with it.
Lily Stamen, with a natural dewdrop not visable as I set up. It was off a tripod with bounced flash if I remember rightly. Lens was a Sigma 105 macro

Ordered mine from amazon last Thursday, wish the postie would get his finger out and deliver it.

Seeing all the new pics on this thread is doing my head in ;)

im very tempted to get one of these but how the heck do you get the insects to stay sill long enough to turn on the camera do all the settings & then take the photo ? or do you just use auto as ive never seen a fly / bee to stay still for more than a few seconds.???

also do they fit straight onto the canon lenses or do you need a converter of some sort.? how come they fit cameras from a bridge to a dlsr ?

thanks.

when you get it , it will do your head in
great fun,

It came today and your right.....its doing my head in

Works perfectly, its me that's letting it down, far to much handshake, so now looking for a small tripod, anyone got any recommendations ? would I be asking to much for the tripod to almost get down to ground level whilst doubling as an easy carry small walkabout.

No idea of how to get the insects to stay still for long enough.

No converter needed for my Nikon 52mm lenses as the Raynox is fitted with two squeezy type expansion clips which appear to fit different size lens as the clips are expanding, works in exactly the same way as a lens cap, squeeze them in and they lock into the lens where the lens cap goes, exactly the same method.

You'd be surprised how long some insects stay still for if you creep up on them nice and slowly ;)

Have you tried using a diffused flash? If you have a look round there's plenty of home made diffuser suggestions for the pop up flash if you don't have a flash gun. Alternatively you can buy a cheap diffuser from amazon for the pop up flash, some thing like this is what I've used for pretty much all my bug shots. http://www.amazon.co.uk/JJC-Pop-Up-...LNH4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1343283727&sr=8-5

never used a tripod with DCR, to me it would be too much hassle, with bugs flying jumping around, once you get the knack it will become easier,
with the good weather you should be able to use f/16 + for a better dof, tho still only very narrow, make most of the sun, good time for bugging, good luck and have fun,
one from to-day

Mike, following very good advice from Milster and Wallyboy I bought a cheap diffuser for the onboard flash and that alone made using the DCR-250 much easier and less frustrating.

Thanks for all the good advice, guess its just down to practice :) Think I need a lot  was really struggling to keep it in focus.

Mark may I ask which defuser you bought.

Quick edit... missed the amazon link Milster posted, thanks for the link.

keep plugging mike its practice and more practice,
looking at your exif data your ss was 1/15, at 65mm focal length, try x 125 on f/16, once you get your technique sorted you hit rate will be better,
the DCR is not very forgiving, but can give great results once sorted,
as a rule of thumb try and keep ss above focal length,

if need be bump up iso
