    red kite

That’s a lovely shot, I have a thing about Red Kites. Great isolation from the tree, by Topaz treatment do you mean sharpening?

A few photos taken from the side of a boat in the Arctic Circle with a Fuji X-T3

That's a lovely set Nick! never get tired of Tromso and Alta in the Winter. 2&3 for me, there is something magical about the cloud formations above the mountains. Nice Work. I too am back to Talk Photography after a considerable break due to illness:confused:

Finding your own locations vs shooting 'well known' compositions

You don’t have to justify yourself Tom, it’s the pressure of time that imposes certain constraints upon you, even more so with your little one to care for. I used to work all hours god sent and yes I discovered many eunique locations for myself while walking, but never felt forfilled from the...

    An evening at Venford Reservoir

Oh yes lovely, #2&3 forfill my tree fetish! But as said above #3 is the standout shot here beautiful. Really like the tones in #2 very moody. One the rock as already mentioned is a little too dominant. Great set

Dovestones Reflections. Mist but no light!

Yes #2 is lovely, has great atmosphere, really works beautifully. The clouds and light did you a favour, nicely shot

    A view towards Llanuwchlyn

First one works for me, well spotted and nicely framed, loving the crepuscular rays, very nice

    Critique Polperro, Cornwall.

I’ve always struggled with composition of those shots of harbour views, I think it’s the fact they always seem to busy, cluttered in my OCD mind. Which bizarrely, is what makes them attractive, now there’s a contradiction in terms. I like the last as Steve says. The diagonals work really well...

    Brief Return

Well done on the ML Kevin Hard to split the three but love the shadow and colour in #3 and I like the way the cloud almost follows the contour of the peak in #1 a lovely set. It’s good to be back on TP lovely to see your work again

    Beinn a'Chrulaiste.

There’s something about #2 that presents a great sense of depth, perhaps the vanishing point of the road and the Last shot is a Stunner Scott. A fantastic set. I certainly missed this beauty in my absence from the forum.

Your experience of upgrading from crop to full-frame: Never-looked-back or underwhelmed?

Talking of purely of Digital, I moved from a D300, to a D700, then to a D810. I have saved like hell when I had the D300 to by Nikon FX lenses. Each step I think seemed to be a game changer. Although I think the biggest difference was when I purchased the quality lenses. An then the D810. Still...

    Never knew.... Norway

Interesting, is what the driving is like, well the vehicles you hire do have proper winter tyres up there and they are good! What you have to be aware of is road closures, something I was unprepared for when I first came across it! Be prepared to have to turn around and go back and in some cases...

    Never knew.... Norway

It's worth doing your research for the time of year to go, and of course depending what you want to do. I have seen Whales in Oct, Nov, Feb, March and April but the best times are normally November till Feburary and the best place is probably around Skjervoy. The Aurora October till March...

    Never knew.... Norway

Honestly Cris, it's a terrific Tromso now is very accessible it has become so because of the winter sports. But you can get some cheap hotel deals too, I have had a couple of good deals up there, it's just a matter of searching the net. Alta is the home of the Aurora Observatory at Haldde, that...

    Never knew.... Norway

Further to the above, regarding travelling to Norway as said above going on a Cruise surprisingly is very good value for money. Norway is a landscape photographers paradise IMHO, but its expensive to eat and especially drink there. This is why a cruise normally represents good value for money...
