Thanks a lot everyone. Yeah, I have trouble balancing the exposure with these since I under-expose for colour but today I had the sun and some lovely coloured bright rocks, so I agree with you. Still thought it was a pretty scene... ;)

Ah, what you're describing here, is pretty much what I've been doing for the past 18 months, backpacker/travelling photography for the everyman. It hasn't really required half as much thought as you seem to have gone to the trouble of, but then photography does sort of take a backseat to...

That's interesting, Joe. I understand what you're saying but the "randomness" is sort of the appeal for me. As for being impersonal, I don't think that's the case. When I see a group full of tourists taking the same picture of the same thing, I'm not wondering what any of their results will look...
