thank you all for your help, it's very much appreciated. This weekend will be my first proper outing with the camera so i'll be able to judge if im happy with the 75-300. A friend as said i can borrow his 55-250 IS, although i am liking the sound of owning some L glass!

sorry for the confusion on my part, i did mean to put 75-300 canon kit lens, my bad. A friend as a 70-300 IS USM and i found that brilliant a few years ago, but the cheapest ive seen them is around £500 new! all your help is much appreciated :)
