I agree about the fussy bits, I'm noticing when I load up the pics that I have bits on the ages I hadn't meant to be there! I think it's getting used to looking through the viewfinder again having been so used to looking at a screen for years instead!

Good point,I was kinda hoping I might get a shot that my point and shoot wouldn't, but there are just some things that may not work well as a photo.

The light was fading on the ground but the castle above still had light around it. To the naked eye looked lovely.
But I tried a few settings and couldn't get a decent shot :(.

The only thing I did find last week in the glorious sunshine is that the AWB Doesn't work as well as it does on my little Canon Ixus 950. I don't know if its because I didn't have a hood on the lens or that it isn't the good on this model?

Had fun testing it out with the 18-55 kit lens in Dorset last week. Took photos on different settings to see what effect they had.
My first attempt at blurring the background. I knew you could do it and tried lots of settings with a handy wall...
No hood :(. It's the lens that came with the camera.
I've seen some strange shaped hoods? Are they better than the round ones or just do different things?
What about the rubber hoods I've seen?
Do I need one?
If yes, when are they used?
What type(s) are there and which one should I get?
I currently have 18-55 canon lens and looking to get the 55-250. Both have the same thread so one to suit both would be preferable.

I've got the 1100 with the lens it came with 18-55.
I'd like a decent zoom but do I go for an additional canon lens or replace it with a Tamron that covers what the current lens does and gives me the zoom.
